I'm New
Whether you are new to the community, new to the Christian faith, or new to our church family, we would like to extend an invitation for you to join us at First Presbyterian. It is our hope that you will find in us a warm and welcoming place where you can call home. We also desire that you will find a place where you can grow in your faith, be nurtured in your relationship with God, and to be challenged to be a faithful follower of Jesus Christ.
New member/connection classes are provided twice a year (in the spring and fall) as a way to learn more about who we are and what we have to offer at FPC. If you have questions about our congregation or what we believe, please contact Pastor Dave at pastordave@fpcbillings.org. He would be happy to talk with you further.
The larger church consists of every person in every nation, together with their children, who profess faith in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and commit themselves to live in a fellowship under his leading. Since this whole company cannot meet together in one place to worship and serve, it is reasonable that it should be divided into smaller congregations.
The First Presbyterian Church of Billings is one such smaller congregation. We are part of the larger church, yet also unique due to our Reformed theology and Presbyterian government. W appreciate the connection we have to one another and the larger church for, as the apostle Paul teaches us in Ephesians 4:5-6, we have "one Lord, one faith, one baptism, one God and Father of us all."
What Responsibilities Does One Accept In Joining The Presbyterian Church?
Joining a church is much like joining a team, whereby we become active members of that team and use our gifts in ways that builds up the greater body of Christ. As our Presbyterian Book of Order makes clear, "a faithful member accepts Christ's call to be involved responsibly in the ministry of his Church".
We hope that all of our members take their relationship to Jesus Christ seriously by:
- Proclaiming the Good News of Jesus and the life-transforming gift we are given through his life, death, and resurrection
- Taking part in the common life and worship of the church
- Praying and studying scripture and growing in your faith
- Giving of your time, talents, and treasures
- Participating in the governing responsibilities of the church
- Demonstrating a new quality of life within and through the church
- Responding to God's activity in the world through service to others
- Living responsibly in the personal, family, vocational, political, cultural, and social relationships of life
- Working in the world for peace, justice, freedom, and human fulfillment
When a person joins the church, they enter into a joyful covenant of faithfulness with God, and also this community of faith. We pledge to love and support each other as we grow together as Christ's disciples. The church's ministry is an expression of our collective witness to the work of Jesus Christ in the world today. In joining the church, you become part of God's work in our midst at this time. We encourage new members to become active in the life and ministry of our congregation, and also active in our community as we live out our faith in very real and practical ways with one another.
