The Stephen Ministry program is a non-denominational program that trains people in one-on-one caring relationships.  Our church has an active Stephen Ministry program that is there to help people through difficult times and transitions in their lives.  Stephen Ministers are not certified counselors, but lay people who have gifts in skills such as listening, encouraging, and walking with people through tough times.  Referrals are kept confidential.

Stephen Ministries' Core Purpose is summed up in the words of St. Paul in his letter to the Ephesians.  "To equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ, until all of us come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to maturity, to the measure of the full stature of Christ" (Ephesians 4:12-13).

Our church currently has about 20 active Stephen Ministers who are engaged in caring relationships. Stephen Ministry supervision is scheduled for the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:00 PM and includes time for continuing education and support. More information about Stephen Ministry is available through one of our church Stephen Ministry leaders who are JoAnn Jones, Doris Backus, Shirley Shirley, or Pastor Dave.

We are excited to be hosting a Stephen Ministry introductory session this coming April at our church. The goal is to introduce this ministry to other churches in our region and to show the value of this program for congregations and their pastoral staff. For more information about this special opportunity, please contact the church office.
