What is Stephen Ministry?
A national lay ministry program designed toprovide distinctively Christian one-on-one care to those broken in mind, body and spirit.

A Stephen Minister is . . . . A lay person who has received 50 hours of training to provide emotional and spiritual care; a caring, Christian friend who listens, cares, prays, supports, and encourages; and someone who will “be there” for his or her care receiver for as long as there is a need. Maintaining confidentiality is critical as a Stephen Minister.

How Does Stephen Ministry Work? When someone requests a Stephen Minister for themselves or someone they know, our Stephen Ministry Referrals Coordinator will meet with that person, explain what Stephen Ministry is, and help determine whether Stephen Ministry is the kind of care that person needs.  A Stephen Minister will only be assigned with your permission and under conditions of strictest confidence.

How Can You Support Stephen Ministry: You, the congregation, play an important role in our Stephen Ministry by

  • Praying for care receivers and caregivers in our program.
  • Accepting care from a Stephen Minister during your time of need.  God doesn’t expect you to bear your burdens alone.
  • Telling a friend, neighbor, coworker, or relative who is hurting about our Stephen Ministry.
  • Considering becoming a Stephen Minister.

To request a Stephen Minister for yourself or make a referral for someone else, please contact Teresa at 242-3434  All inquiries are CONFIDENTIAL.
